When James Leroy Edwards bought Central Harley-Davidson^®, it was the beginning of a family tradition that has lasted for nearly 40 years.

Mr. Edwards, better known as "Pop,", bought the dealership from Ralph O'Dell in 1968. At that time it was located at Fifth and Central, in Kansas City, Kansas. In the early days, Pop ran the business and his wife Carol "helped with the paperwork, from time to time". In 1969, their son Max joined the family business and in 1971, daughters Cathy and Marilyn began working at the shop. The grandchildren started helping around the shop and later, in 1994, began working full time.

The Edwards family philosophy of treating folks like friends and family kept the business growing. In 1977, the dealership moved to a bigger and more modern facility at 13010 W. 63rd Street in Shawnee. The location changed, but the philosophy stayed the same. Pop carried on with folks just like he always had, building trust and loyalty with his customers that has lasted through the years.

Sometimes that trust and loyalty began before the customer was even a customer. Like when Diane Bronson came into Central Harley-Davidson crying. She had a flat tire on her car and didn't know what to do. Pop, always with a big heart, helped her take care of that tire and the Bronson’s have been loyal friends and customers ever since.

By 1996, the booming Harley-Davidson^® business was in full swing. Central Harley-Davidson outgrew its 63rd Street location and it was time to move again. The Edwards family moved the dealership to a new 15,000 square foot building at the corner of Shawnee Mission Parkway and 7 Highway.

In 2005 it was time to grow again. At Thanksgiving, Central Harley- Davidson opened an additional location on Rawhide Drive in Olathe. This new facility is nearly 50,000 sq. ft. with a state of the art service department and space to hold HOG^® Club meetings at the dealership.

Central Harley-Davidson has grown, but it has never outgrown the philosophy of treating folks like friends and family. True to its traditions, the family-owned and operated Central Harley-Davidson can help you feel at home - at either location.
